Mikel Arteta reveals ANOTHER injury as key Arsenal star withdraws from training after suffering a knock against Aston Villa

Arsenal's rising star Myles Lewis-Skelly has been added to the club's growing injury list as Mikel Arteta revealed the reason behind the youngsters' omission from the Champions League.

The versatile 18-year-old has been a rare bright spot amid Arsenal's current injury crisis, which has seen a host of key defenders injured during a hectic series of matches.

Arteta had given Lewis-Skelly starting minutes after Riccardo Calafiori, Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu were injured and has started the club's last two previous Premier League games.

However, Arteta revealed that Lewis-Skelly was unable to finish training on Tuesday after suffering a problematic knock against Aston Villa at the weekend.

Oleksandr Zinchenko was recalled to Arsenal's starting lineup in Lewis-Skelly's absence for the visit of Dinamo Zagreb, as Arteta confirmed another destabilizing injury complaint.

Explaining Lewis-Skelly's absence, the Gunners boss told TNT Sports: “Unfortunately, he wasn't able to finish the training session yesterday (Tuesday).

“He had an incident during the game against Aston Villa and yesterday he wasn't feeling well so he couldn't finish the session,” added the Spaniard.

Lewis-Skelly had initially been pictured smiling during the troubled training session before stopping and returning inside for further assessment.

However, the England under-19 international traveled to the Emirates for the Champions League despite not being available for selection and being watched from the stands.

Meanwhile, circumstances were similar for Calafiori, who missed the last three games with a muscle problem and was hoping to be included against Zagreb.

Explaining that the Italian's name was left out of the squad, Arteta continued: “The same goes for Ricci, he only trained for 20 minutes.

“Adapting again like we have done all season and having some freshness in the team, which I think is also important.”
