John CapodiceA veteran character actor who spent decades on stage and screen — including memorable roles on “Ace Ventura” and “General Hospital” — has died, TMZ has learned.
Capodice's death was announced Thursday on the website of Pizzi Funeral Home in New Jersey. His cause of death was not revealed.
Born in Chicago on Christmas Day 1941, Capodice served in the U.S. Army in Korea in the mid-1960s before moving to New York City to begin his acting career in off-Broadway stage productions.
He appeared on the 1978 soap opera Ryan's Hope…and starred in As the World Turns, Moonlighting, Seinfeld, LA Law and Melrose Place, Will & Grace…and he had a recurring role on “General Hospital.” He also appeared in Broadway stage productions.
Capodice's professional film credits included “Wall Street,” “The Doors,” “Speed” and “Independence Day”…and he had a memorable turn as a ridiculous cop Jim Carreyis the main character in “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective”.
He last appeared in the TV comedy series “Conversation with Monster” in 2024.
Capodice died on Monday. He leaves behind his wife, two daughters and four grandchildren. According to the Obituary for the Pizzi Funeral HomeThe family has asked for donations in his memory Rockland Homes for Heroes.
Capodice was 83.
