Richmond Tigers leading AFL star Noah Balta has been charged over an alleged off-season altercation that allegedly left a man with head lacerations.
Police were called to a sports club in Mulwala, near the Victoria-New South Wales border, shortly after midnight on Tuesday morning.
New South Wales Police confirmed that Balta was later charged with assault over an alleged incident after another man was hospitalized, according to Seven news Mitch Cleary, AFL Chief Reporter.
Balta had reportedly been preparing to celebrate the New Year with family and friends.
Balta reported to police shortly before lunchtime on Tuesday.
He was released on bail to appear at Corowa Local Court on January 30.

The key defender, who has played 104 games since his debut at the start of the 2019 season, signed a huge seven-year contract extension just a few months ago.
The extension secures him as a Richmond player until the end of the 2032 season.
In his six-season career, he has scored 37 goals for the Tigers.
