Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo was forced to endure an unpleasant time on the sideline before producing a surprising comeback in Wednesday's Peach Bowl.
The 22-year-old inspired a stunning comeback for the Sun Devils against Texas before they ultimately came up short in a 39-31 overtime thriller.
And while the end of the matchup didn't end as a fairy tale for Arizona, the start of Skattebo's game wasn't completely plain sailing either.
The Longhorns' defense did a stellar job of containing Arizona's offense through the first two quarters and tensions seemed to boil over on the Sun Devils' bench.
Skattebo was caught yelling at his teammates and slamming his helmet in anger as the Sun Devils, already trailing by multiple scores to Texas, continued to fight.
However, things went from bad to worse for Skattebo, who finished fifth in last month's Heisman Trophy voting, when he lost his lunch.
Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo was 'vomiting profusely' on the sideline
The ESPN broadcast reported that the offensive star was 'vomiting profusely' on the sideline during the fourth quarter.
However, Skattebo's sickening moment on the bench seemed to have eased some of the tension when he recovered.
Midway through the fourth quarter, Skattebo and Arizona finally managed to get their first touchdown on the board.
On fourth-and-2 from the Texas 42-yard line, Skattebo made a throw and then threw a pass to Malik McClain, before the Sun Devils secured the two-point conversion to bring the score to 24-16 with 6:31 remaining. .
That was not the end of his heroic acts. After an interception by Quinn Ewers, Skattebo caught a 62-yard pass from Leavitt. He then concluded the drive by driving into the end zone to cut the lead to 24-22 before tying the game by scoring the two-point conversion.
He also put his team ahead for the first time all day with a three-yard touchdown run to start overtime against No. 4 Texas.
Skattebo finished with two rushing touchdowns and seven receptions for 86 yards.
The star shrugged off difficult times to produce an impressive Peach Bowl resurgence.
The Sun Devils' comeback ultimately fell short as they suffered an overtime loss to Texas.
However, the Sun Devils couldn't hold on to pull off an upset over the Longhorns when an interception by Andrew Makuba finally ended a Peach Bowl quarterfinal classic in double overtime.
Arizona was on the verge of winning when Texas faced fourth-and-13 on its first possession in overtime. But Quinn Ewers found Matthew Golden breaking free behind two defenders for a 28-yard touchdown.
After moving to the opposite end of Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Ewers threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Gunnar Helms on the next play, followed by a two-point conversion pass to Golden.
The Longhorns finally defeated Arizona State (11-3) when Makuba intercepted Sam Leavitt's pass at the 3-yard line to end the game.
