Here's a look at what you could have won, Arsenal.
Alexander Isak: Newcastle's supreme centre-forward, who is becoming one of Europe's deadliest goalscorers.
And Anthony Gordon, the versatile English striker whose reputation as one of this country's most impressive attacking talents is flourishing.
Both players have been courted by Arsenal over the last 12 months. Both attacked mercilessly here to sink a dagger into the Gunners' Carabao Cup hopes.
It's only half-time, of course, and Arsenal (being Arsenal) will believe they can complete a euphoric comeback at St James' Park in the second leg.
But based on the evidence of this, they don't have the slightest chance of climbing this mountain.
Newcastle shocked Arsenal in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Tuesday night.

Mikel Arteta's side will have to overturn a 2-0 deficit ahead of next month's second leg.
Not if they let Isak run wild like he did here.
That's not to say he was a one-man show. Nothing of the sort. This was a Newcastle performance full of skill, discipline, work ethic and pride.
Isak's spectacular performance was simply the icing on the cake.
Arsenal will know they have an extra team – maybe two – to find. This was not a display befitting the reputation Mikel Arteta has built for himself here.
If they can find those levels, then they can head north with hope in their hearts. But this was a painful night for them.
But not fatal; They will hold on to that optimism.
The first half passed quickly. Breathless stuff. The EFL Cup, in its various forms over the years, has taken a beating.
People even say that playing at Wembley doesn't mean as much as it used to. Trying to tell that to the 29 players who played here.
Isak put the visitors ahead in the first half when he scored off a pass from Jacob Murphy.
It was the Swedish striker's tenth goal in his last nine games in all competitions.
Try telling that to the packed Emirates crowd, who were captivated and excited from the start.
Try telling that to Jurrien Timber, William Saliba, Lewis Hall and Gabriel Martinelli, who were agonizing after missing first-half chances to open the scoring.
Try telling that to Isak, who opened the scoring. Winning trophies matters, and playing at Wembley remains as magical as ever.
The start of the Arsenal game was exciting. Declan Rice's corners were causing Newcastle a lot of problems – Timber really should have dispatched a header in the 13th minute following a set piece from his team-mate.
In fact, for the first 20 minutes, the Geordies were all hands on deck as Arsenal attempted to take the lead from the first leg.
But little by little Newcastle grew. As did the visiting team's decibel level after Hall's attempt was blocked following brilliant play by Isak centre-forward.
Arsenal's initial flow had been stifled. Joelinton's clear mission to cling to Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard like white on rice was instrumental in Newcastle finding its feet.
However, if Martinelli had not hit the post when only Martin Dubravka was about to hit after a sumptuous touch from Leandro Trossard in the 29th minute, then perhaps the first 45 minutes would have gone in Arsenal's favour.
The Gunners dominated much of the match, but were often wasteful in front of goal.
Gordon made it two in the second half when he reacted first after Raya saved a shot from Isak.
But it wasn't like that, thanks to Isak.
Route one at its most effective; Dubravka's clearance was fired by Sven Botman, deflected by Jacob Murphy and finished off by Newcastle's predatory Swede.
Arsenal's interest in Isak is no secret. If the finances are achievable, then there is a good chance that Isak will travel to the Emirates more frequently to celebrate the upcoming season.
But that's for then. The present is much more pressing.
Gabriel Magalhaes looked frustrated at the end of the first half as Arsenal struggled to level the score.
Arteta's half-time instructions were made very clear during the opening stages of the second half.
The pace was slower, much more controlled by the Gunners. Like chalk and cheese compared to the whirlwind of the first half.
It made sense for Arsenal to ease the pain of the match. The head-to-head confrontation with Newcastle did not bear the fruits they expected in the first half.

As it happens, the second half wasn't coming up either. Once again Isak took center stage, somehow, with three Arsenal players around him, forcing David Raya to make a save to leave Anthony Gordon the simple task of touching the goal at the far post.
Newcastle was elated. From there it is a long journey to London. After this, the return trip won't seem so arduous.
Arsenal, in short, could not cope with Isak. Saliba and Magalhaes form a formidable couple. Isak was making them look normal here.
Kai Havertz missed a magnificent opportunity just before the hour mark to reduce the deficit. Unmarked from six yards, he headed wide; Replays showed his effort actually came from his shoulder.
Arteta had seen enough, the Spaniard brought Gabriel Jesus and Jorginho into shape in the hope of responding.
But Newcastle's defense was tenacious. Backs to the wall: a sequence of play in the 68th minute in which central midfielder Sandro Tonali and Joelinton threw their bodies at the same ball, symbolizing their spirit.
Arsenal struggled, rather than impressed, in attack. That should worry Arteta in the future.

However, it was a painful night for the Gunners as they continued to struggle in front of goal.
The Gunners boss would have been happy to see Isak's back in the 65th minute. What a footballer he is.
One could venture to guess that Arsenal will not be the only club on the list to sign the super Scandinavian for next season.
But Arsenal's need for a new striker is clear. Adding Isak to this team would give them a whole new and terrifying dimension.
For now, however, Arsenal can only dream. Newcastle, on the other hand; His Wembley dream is close to becoming a reality.
