Arsenal legend Martin Keown has revealed why he believes his former team will fall short in the title race.
It appears to be a two-horse race in the fight to win the Premier League, with Chelsea falling in recent weeks and Liverpool now eight points clear of Nottingham Forest in second place.
Forest could compete but are expected to go down, and Arsenal will look to finish second when they face Brentford on Wednesday night.
A win would put them within six points of Liverpool having played one more game, and they are expected to be the main rivals to Arne Slot's men, who have taken the top flight by storm so far.
Winning the league would mark the first Premier League title since 2004 for Mikel Arteta's side, a team that included Mail Sport's Keown and would win the league as the only unbeaten team to do so.
But he himself thinks that his ex will fall short. And speaking on TNT Sports ahead of Arsenal's clash with Brentford, he explained why.
“Liverpool look magnificent at the moment, but it's a great opportunity for Arsenal to close the gap once again,” he said. Lots of big games, Arsenal, Manchester United, FA Cup. Brentford's record at home is quite remarkable, it's a strength.
“He wants more runners in the midfield. The two second-placed players are probably the two most underrated forwards in the Premier League. Mbeumo, when he comes out on the left side, scores a lot of goals.
“We want Arsenal to finally win the league, but it looks like Liverpool are going to do it.
“I was disappointed that Chelsea fell in the last two games. A three-horse race improves it. But the quality of (Luis) Díaz, (Cody) Gakpo up top, Arsenal needs to find a little higher up. If the three forwards of the “Arsenal can score more goals… they really need to show up and the pressure is on them tonight.”
