Barcelona “are confident they CAN register Dani Olmo after finding a financial solution” but LaLiga is “threatened with legal action by several clubs” if they agree

Barcelona are reportedly confident they can register Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor after finding a solution to their financial blockage.

Barça's offer to register both for the second half of the season was rejected by LaLiga after they were unable to demonstrate in time that they had the necessary financial guarantees.

Olmo, a Euro 2024 winner with Spain, only joined Barcelona from RB Leipzig in the summer on a £50m deal. However, he was only able to register on a temporary deal until the end of 2024 due to LaLiga's current financial constraints for Barcelona.

The Catalan club had tried to re-register him and striker Víctor to be able to play beyond December 31, but LaLiga rejected their request.

Barça intend to press ahead with their attempts to register the duo and LaLiga have reportedly been threatened with legal action by several clubs if they approve the move, according to SPORT.

Barcelona believe that selling VIP boxes at their soon-to-be-renovated Camp Nou will provide them with additional income (around £83 million) to register stars, SPORT reports.

In fact, club executives are said to be “confident” that they will be given the green light to register the stars and have been “working day and night” to make it happen.

Barcelona will return to action on January 4 when they face Barbastro in the Copa del Rey, and Olmo and Víctor will not be able to play, as things stand.

The saga has major repercussions on the wider European transfer market as Olmo has become a target for Manchester United and Manchester City. He would have the right to leave as a free agent this month if he is unable to register.

With three goals and two assists, he was an important star in Spain's victory in the European Championship. Since then, he has scored six goals and registered one assist for the Blaugrana this season after leaving Leipzig.

La Liga issued a statement on Tuesday night confirming that they had rejected Barcelona's proposal to register the players.

It said: “FC Barcelona has not presented any alternative that, in compliance with LaLiga's economic control regulations, would allow it to register any player after January 2.”

LaLiga has removed Olmo and Víctor from the list of registered Barcelona players on its website.

Olmo, Barcelona's number 20, would have featured alongside Marc Casado and Frankie De Jong.

Víctor, who has squad number 18, is also no longer listed on the website.

Defender Andreas Christensen, however, has returned after the defender was dismissed to allow Olmo's temporary registration for the first half of the season.

Christensen has only appeared once this season as he suffered an injury on the opening day of the campaign, which opened the door for Olmo to sign up.

Olmo, who has been linked with a possible move to the Premier League amid uncertainty over his future, gave a cryptic message by sharing photos of his New Year's Eve celebrations on social media.

The 26-year-old shared photos with the caption 'It's time for 2025', with the message ending with blue and heart emojis, an apparent reference to Barcelona's Blaugrana colours.

The post appeared to be made due to comments from Olmo's agent, Andy Bara, about the star's future.
