With Stokes on the road to recovery after shaking his left hamstride in New Zealand in December, and with an exhausting series of five tests this year against India and Australia, Key recognizes the need to manage his workload.
But he added: 'That is always the way in England: Do you start to see what happens if it goes wrong? You also have to think: What's wrong with? Ben has a lot of energy for many things.
Key said he thought Brook “would be an outstanding captain,” and that he knocked out the concerns that the best young batter in England would overload.
“It was cautious that Ben Stokes did the test work and had too much, and see how he has left,” he said.
