Benedict Cumberbatch looks back on a “near-death” experience over 20 years ago… when he says he was kidnapped and robbed while traveling abroad.
The British actor opened up diversity about the harrowing ordeal in which he claimed he was kidnapped and robbed by six men while filming the BBC series To the Ends of the Earth in South Africa in 2004.
Benedict said the incident occurred after a diving trip with friends and her group suffered a punctured tire, leaving them stranded on the side of the road.
Things got particularly bad when Benedict and his group were subsequently robbed by bandits, forced into a vehicle and driven around for several hours. He recalled being tied up and forced to sit “execution style”… which then allowed the robbers to escape.
Benedict noted that he had seriously changed after the experience… and explained that he had become a bit of an adrenaline junkie.
He added… “The near-death stuff accelerated all of this. It made me think, 'Oh, sure, yeah, I could die at any moment.'”
However, BC said his attitude changed after marrying his wife. Sophie Hunterand greet their three sons together.
He continued… “There's a huge shift in priorities and that makes you value what you do with your life in a whole different way.”
A good reason to retire the “YOLO” mantra.
