Bernardo insists Celtic are ready to bounce back after their painful Old Firm attack

Celtic midfielder Paulo Bernardo has promised the champions are ready to bounce back from their resounding Old Firm defeat at Ibrox.

The league leaders squandered the opportunity to move 17 points clear of their city rivals, posting their worst domestic performance of the season to date, as they lost 3-0 last Thursday.

Bernardo could not explain exactly what went wrong at Ibrox but insisted that he and his team-mates are already eager to get back to winning ways, starting with Sunday's home Premiership clash against St Mirren.

“It was a bad game for the team, very hard for us,” admitted the former Benfica player. “We didn't play our football and I think they were the best team and deserved to win.

'I don't know where it came from, sometimes it just happens.

“Now we need to work harder and focus on the things we didn't do well on the field and make sure it doesn't happen again.”

'Surely we have to restart. We didn't play as well as we wanted to, so we need to get an answer as soon as possible.

“It's our job, we have to come back on Sunday and we need to get a good response, because we are Celtic and we want to win.”

“It's good that we have such a quick game, for sure, and we need to get an answer as soon as possible.”

Despite the midweek slip, the Parkhead side still have a healthy 11 points lead at the top and remain in with a chance of retaining their Premiership crown.

But the 22-year-old Portuguese midfielder refuses to look beyond the visit of Stephen Robinson's men to the east end of Glasgow today.

“The title is very far away,” he said. 'It's January, the first (home) game of January, so we're not focusing on the title. “We focus on the next game.”
