Micah Richards received a fun gift from Stade Brestois, or Brest for short, during CBS Sports' Champions League show Golazo on Wednesday night.
The expert received a t-shirt that said “Brest Lover” on the back, much to the amusement of the rest of the panel: Thierry Henry, Kate Scott and Jamie Carragher.
Henry's gift was free of any innuendo, simply reading his surname with his iconic number 14 on the back, while Carragher was completely snubbed for any banter on Brest's part.
The competition debutants had to settle for a 2-0 defeat in the penultimate group stage match on Wednesday, but have already secured qualification for the round of 16.
However, the focus of the evening for the experts was the club's fun show of gratitude towards them, which included a written letter addressed to the panel.
It said: “Dear CBS friends, thank you very much for your attention to Brest's performances since the start of the Champions League.
Micah Richards received a Stade Brestois (Brest for short) t-shirt that said “Brest Lover”
Thierry Henry also received a t-shirt that said 'Henry', while Carragher was left empty-handed.
Richards wore the shirt for the rest of the broadcast, much to the amusement of his co-writers.
'We all enjoyed watching your many laughs in the studio. That's why we made a special t-shirt for Micah. “We couldn't resist giving a Stade Brestois shirt to our legend Thierry Henry, to whom we send our warmest regards.”
Carragher intervened and asked: “Nothing for me, Kate, right?”
“Listen, I'm just reading the card, it is what it is,” Scott laughed, as he handed Richards his shirt.
The former Manchester City defender was very amused by the gesture, laughing out loud and exclaiming: 'Brest Lover!'
Henry looked surprised and said, “I've got Henry,” while Carragher gave a dull smile and added, “I've never been able to get my hands on Brest.”
He went on to say, “I can't believe they left me out with the shirt.” I produced the best line when we did that.
The Liverpool legend was referring to an incident that occurred in November, when Richards was the subject of very ironic and double meaning mockery from his teammates.
Richards was being jokingly punished for his comments in a previous broadcast earlier in the season about the Ligue 1 team.
Carragher joked that he should have been given a gift too for his role in the previous exchange.
“It's something important,” said Thierry Henry, looking ahead to Brest's next match in the then competition, against Bayer Leverkusen.
Only for Richards to comment: “I think it's a little unbalanced.” That comment sent several members of the production team into hysterics, while presenter Kate Scott covered her face to hide her laughter.
However, in response to his actions, on the following CBS show, Scott jokingly claimed that the production team had asked Richards to remain silent while the team of experts discussed Brest's exploits in the Champions League.
“We are going to do a segment about Brest, but unfortunately we believe that you have consistently proven that you cannot remain professional in these segments, so production would like to ask you if you are comfortable staying silent.” Scott asked Richards.
The former England defender insists he “can do this”, but presenter Scott sarcastically repeated “we think it's best”, before Richards agreed to remain silent.
But the panel then embarked on a segment full of hilarious innuendos and double entenders, deliberately designed to make Richards laugh and test his self-control.
“After four games, who likes Brest?” Scott asked, as Henry and Jamie Carragher smiled as they raised their hands.
“I like the way he looks,” Carragher joked as Richards was almost in physical pain as he held back his laughter. 'If you look at the set-up under the manager, what he has… has he picked two forwards tonight?'
Scott (left) joked that the production staff had asked Richards (right) to remain silent.
Thierry Henry (left) and Jamie Carragher (right) also took part in mocking their co-author.
Richards finally cracked under the barrage of insinuations and asked, 'What is this?!'
“Yeah, two big um… a couple up front that are going to try…” Henry adds.
Scott then continued: “And how much do you like watching them? Would you pay to see them?”
Carragher then replies: 'I've already done it!' leaving Richards rocking back and forth in his chair and hitting the desk as he tried to compose himself.
But Henry continued mercilessly and said: 'There's basically one thing you can say. You don't have to be big; you can be small and compete.'
Scott continues: “Do you think Brest could be exposed tonight (against Barcelona in the Champions League)?”
And Carragher finally broke the camel's back, replying: 'I hope so!'
It proved to be too much for Richards, who finally burst out and asked: 'What is this? What is this nonsense? HOUR! Wow! That was hard!'
But Scott wasn't finished: “What do you think, Micah? Could Barcelona get to Brest a little faster tonight?” to which Richards looked surprised and refused to answer.
Carragher joked that he “might have crossed the line”, while Richards refused to play because he claimed “you're trying to get me fired” and pleaded for the fifth, before the argument escalated into a serious inspection of the French team.
