The Chargers are committed to helping victims of the Los Angeles wildfires… by donating $200,000 to support the community.
The organization announced its contribution to the relief fund on Wednesday … and said the money will go to several programs in Los Angeles to support evacuees, first responders, animal rescue and cleanup teams.
“While we are currently experiencing unprecedented conditions that seemingly cannot get any worse as we contend with multiple fires across our region, we are also witnessing our community putting its best foot forward,” the Chargers chairman said Dean Spanos said.
“The bravery, selflessness, bravery, sacrifice and compassion shown by first responders, good Samaritans, friends, family and neighbors over the last 24 hours has been remarkable.”
In addition to the donation, the Chargers are asking fans to donate water bottles, blankets and clothing to evacuation centers.
“Our thoughts are with everyone displaced by these fires, with the firefighters, police officers and frontline workers who are risking their lives to keep us safe, and with those of us who are standing by each other in this incredible time of need .” Spanos added.
The Chargers play the Houston Texans in the NFL Wild Card playoff round on Saturday.
Several postseason events in LA for fans, including the Charge Up to Playoffs party in Sherman Oaks, were canceled due to the wildfires.
