China is an important importer of American agricultural products, although their purchases fell after Trump launched a commercial war during his first term in office, and then recovered. Mexico was the largest importer of American agricultural products, followed by Canada.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce included around two dozen exports of American farms subject to additional rates of 15 percent, including chicken and wings legs, and 711 items subject to an additional 10 percent rate.
In 2021-22, the United States registered export values registered to China for soybeans, corn, beef, chicken meat, tree nuts and sorghum. Cotton exports to China also recovered, according to the United States Department of Agriculture. The exports of the American farm to China totaled $ 33.8 billion in fiscal year 2023 and $ 36.4 billion in fiscal year 2022.
China has been diversifying its sources for farm imports, buying more soy in Brazil and Argentina, among other producers.
