The Colorado Buffaloes have reportedly closed a funding request from football coach Deion Sanders amid ties to the Dallas Cowboys' head coaching vacancy.
After a disastrous season, the Cowboys parted ways with head coach Mike McCarthy after five seasons. The divorce also occurred because both sides failed to agree on a new deal as McCarthy's existing contract expired.
As the Cowboys look to hire a head coach, news emerged that Jerry Jones contacted Sanders, a former Dallas star, about the vacancy.
As rumors circulate about the potential hire, NFL Network's Jane Slater reported that the University of Colorado will not grant Sanders' request for more funding for his program.
'Something to keep in mind after Jerry Jones and his initial conversations with Deion Sanders. “Two people with knowledge of the situation told me that Sanders reached out to Colorado AD Rick George on Tuesday to request additional money for NIL and his staff,” Sanders wrote.
“He met resistance. The University of Colorado did not confirm or deny the information when I contacted it,” she continued. “Deion Sanders did not respond when contacted multiple times for comment.”

Sanders has been linked to opening the Cowboys head coach following the firing of Mike McCarthy.
After coaching Jackson State from 2020 to 2022, Sanders signed a five-year, $29.5 million contract to coach the Buffaloes.
Despite suffering a 4-8 season in his first year, Sanders attracted a lot of attention to the team. Last season, the Buffaloes finished with a 9-4 record with Shedeur Sanders and Heisman winner Travis Hunter leading the stampede.
Dallas saw the postseason in each of the previous seasons under McCarthy. They also went 12-5 three years in a row, but only had one playoff win during his tenure.
With their last title coming in 1995, team owner Jerry Jones has been adamant about the need for a championship. After what he called a 'joint review,' the Cowboys decided it was time to move on from McCarthy.
“Over the past week, Mike and I had the opportunity to conduct a joint review of all aspects of last season, our players and staff, and also spent considerable time discussing the path forward for the team,” Jones said.
“However, before we got to the point of contract negotiations, it became clear to everyone that it would be best for each of us to go in a different direction.”
The position has also been linked to former Cowboys tight end Jason Witten.
