A cycling fan was injured in a shocking high-speed collision during the Tour Down Under after several competitors lost control during a hairpin bend.
The dramatic crash, captured on the race broadcast, occurred during the Saturday night sprint leg of Australia's biggest cycle race.
Italian cyclist Andrea Raccagni brushed against an inside barrier and slid across the road, causing seven cyclists to become trapped in the huge impact.
The group then crashed into spectators who, until then, were peacefully enjoying the action on a pleasant summer afternoon.
The vision captured the crowd as they screamed and prepared for the crash when they realized the cyclists were going to crash before the bikes and bodies were thrown to the other side of the road.
Several spectators were trapped and fell to the ground in the terrifying collision.
A spokesperson for the Tour Down Under confirmed that a spectator was seriously injured in the accident and was taken to hospital for treatment.
“We are in contact with the spectator's family and have offered our support,” the spokesperson said.

Riders reached speeds of up to 50 kilometers per hour on the hairpin bend, commentators said.
The woman remains in the hospital.
On Sunday morning, South Africa's Prime Minister Peter Malinauskas called it a “terrible and bizarre accident.”
“Last night we tragically saw a major accident at the TDU, where cyclists crashed into spectators,” the Prime Minister said.
“It is sad to report that a woman has suffered multiple serious injuries.”
He added that the woman was visiting from New South Wales with her husband.
New Zealand Olympian Kim Cadzow was involved in another minor accident on Sunday during the women's race that left her nose bleeding.

In Saturday's men's event, the leading runners in the hour-long street race made it around the final bend without incident, but four others crashed into the barricades.
A race official said the runners had taken the final corner 20 km/h faster than in previous laps.
The Adelaide Park Circuit was the same one used to launch the first Tour Down Under in 1999.
But the debut race was counterclockwise, not clockwise, resulting in a much less tight turn in the final stretch.
The Italian driver Manilo Moro (Movistar) was the only one of those injured who could not finish the race.
He needed the help of a team staff member as he slowly made his way to the finish line, looking very deteriorated.
Moro is understood to be receiving further treatment.
The classic, a unique race, is a fixed event in the Tour Down Under. It allows foreign cyclists to have a success at the beginning of the season before the Tour.
The six-stage Tour, celebrating its 25th anniversary, begins on Tuesday.
