New technology could change the way our legal system works… because a judge in Florida donned a virtual reality headset to get a better feel for a defendant's testimony.
lawyer Ken Padowitz is using VR to defend his client in a criminal case, and he was on “TMZ Live” to explain how the fancy technology is being introduced into the legal system.
Ken's customer is Miguel Albisu … the man owns a wedding venue in Florida and is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Albisu brandished a gun at a wedding reception but said he acted in self-defense after some of those in attendance began raising their voices.
TMZ obtained the VR clip that Padowitz showed the judge … and it shows Albisu's version of events, putting viewers in his shoes. Padowitz says the judge can now understand why Albisu felt threatened and pulled out a gun.
Of course, prosecutors will likely argue that VR merely shows one side's point of view… but Padowitz explains why that shouldn't be a major hurdle going forward.
Pretty cool stuff. The future is here, people.
