The three -time Cheltenham Delta Work winner has been announced at the age of 12, has been announced.

Delta's work, the runner -up in Grand National last year, died after suffering a colic attack.

“Unfortunately, Delta's work has died this morning at the age of 12 after an episode of colic,” wrote coach Gordon Elliott on social networks.

'It was a privilege of training and won 5 degrees 1 and at 3 Cheltenham festivals.

“He was a hero and everyone in Cullentra was very surprised.”

Delta's work triumphed for the first time in Cheltenham in 2018, winning the final of Pertemps.

A famous victory over the state partner Tiger Roll continued in the Persecution Glenfarclas in 2022, before retaining the title the following year.

The horse, owned by the Gigginstown House Stud, ended third in the Grand National in 2022 and was the runner -up last year behind I Am Maximus.

Delta's work obtained 12 victories in general, including five at the level of grade one.

“It was an incredible horse and we were very lucky and proud to have it and be associated with it,” said Eddie O'Leary of Gigginstown.

'It was brilliant for Gordon and Gordon was brilliant for him. It was so versatile, so honest and so solid.

'He had the colic this morning and we tried to operate to save him for the field, but even that unfortunately did not work.

“It seems to have existed forever and God bless him, it was an absolute superstar.”
