The Detroit Lions have led their new offensive coordinator after losing Ben Johnson against the Chicago Bears.
The lions have suffered a trio of blows in this postseason, first being eliminated from the playoffs in a surprising defeat for Washington's commanders, the loss of OC Johnson and the defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn for chief coach positions.
However, Dan Campbell and company. They are already looking to recover, having designated John Morton to replace Johnson, according to Insiders of the NFL Ian Raport and Tom Pelissero.
The 55 -year hiring marks a return to Detroit after Morton spent the 2022 season as a senior offensive assistant of the Lions.
While Morton can have familiarity with Campbell's training and Detroit's offensive has large shoes to fill that Johnson.
Johnson has left behind a high octane offensive that was among the top five in points and yards in each of his three seasons as an offensive coordinator.

In the 2024 season, which saw the lions ensure the number 1 seed in the NFC, Detroit boasted of the scoring offensive number 1 and unit No. 2 in total yards.
While it is a high task to replicate success, Morton will inherit a talented offensive list, including offensive Tackle Penei Sewell, Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery, open receptors Amon-ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, and the Campo de Campo Jared Goff.
Morton began his NFL career with the Raiders in 2002 as an offensive assistant, then assumed the same role with the New Orleans Saints of Sean Payton.
A four -year period in university football passed as an offensive coordinator for USC, before returning to the NFL as an open receiver coach for the San Francisco 49ers and the Saints.
Morton later became the offensive coordinator of the Jets in 2017 and then returned to the Raiders as a senior offensive assistant after his time in New York.
More recently, he has been working with Payton again, this time in Denver, during the last two seasons.
Meanwhile, the lions hired within their own pride to replace Glenn, who took the job as the new Jet Chief coach, as a defensive coordinator.
The Lions raised the eight -year -old veteran of NFL Kelvin Sheppard, who obtained his first DC work in his third season under Chief coach Campbell.
