Uganda has confirmed an outbreak of the Ebola virus in the capital Kampala with the first confirmed patient who died Wednesday, the Ministry of Health said Thursday.
It is the ninth out of the country of East Africa since it registered its early infection of viral disease in 2000.
The patient, a male nurse at the National Mulago reference hospital in Kampala, had initially sought treatment in several facilities, including mule, as well as a traditional healer, after developing fever symptoms.
“The patient experienced a multiple failure and succumbed to the disease at the National Mulago reference hospital on January 29. Post -mortem samples confirmed the disease (strain) of the Ebola virus of Sudan,” the ministry said in a statement.
Forty -four contacts of the deceased man have been included in the tracking, including 30 health workers, the ministry said.

However, the contact tracking could be a challenge like Kampala, where the last Ebola infection arose, it is a crowded city of more than 4 million people and a crossroads for traffic to South Sudan, Congo, Rwanda and other countries .
Highly infectious hemorrhagic fever is transmitted through contact with body fluids and infected tissues. Symptoms include headache, blood vomiting, muscle aches and bleeding.

Ugandan authorities have used accumulated capacity for years, such as laboratory tests, knowledge of patient care, contact tracking and other skills, to control recent Ebola outbreaks in relatively short term.
The World Health Organization said it had assigned $ 1 million of its emergency contingency fund to support rapid action to contain the outbreak.
The world health agency was also working with developers to send candidate vaccines, he said in a statement.
Uganda suffered for the last time an outbreak at the end of 2022 that killed 55 of the 143 infected people. That outbreak was declared on January 11, 2023.
Ebola vaccination for all the deceased's contacts will begin immediately, the ministry said. There is currently no approved vaccine for Ebola Sudan strain, although Uganda received some doses of test vaccines during the last outbreak.
An outbreak of Marburg, an Ebola cousin, was declared in neighboring Tanzania last week. Uganda also borders Rwanda, who has just emerged from a Marburg outbreak, and the Congo where Ebola's outbreaks are common.
