Eintracht Frankfurt seem to confirm that Omar Marmoush is close to signing for Manchester City ahead of their match against Borussia Dortmund.
City have reached a verbal agreement with Frankfurt to sign hot striker Marmoush. tThe Premier League champions had already agreed personal terms with Marmoush and are now looking to seal their £67million move.
Marmoush, 25, is the second top scorer in the Bundesliga behind Harry Kane with 15 goals. He has 20 goals in all competitions this season.
Mail Sport exclusively revealed City's interest in the Egyptian international last month.
City have been searching for a striker to ease the burden on Erling Haaland and Pep Guardiola has admitted they made a mistake by not replacing Julián Álvarez, who joined Atlético Madrid in the summer.
Now, a further step has been taken with the striker absent from Frankfurt's squad to face Dortmund on Friday night, with Frankfurt posting an update on social media.
“Eintracht Frankfurt is currently in talks with another club regarding the transfer of Omar Marmoush,” they published. “Therefore, he is not included in the team today.”
City were originally hoping to land Marmoush for around £40m, but Frankfurt have insisted they want a premium because it is the January window and they need to find a replacement.
Provided all of City's current jobs get over the line, it will represent a £102.9m outlay for the club so far this window, a clear statement of how urgently they want to turn the season around.
Guardiola's side are expected to complete the £33.5m signing of Lens' wonderful Uzbek centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov this week and have agreed a £29.4m deal with Palmeiras to sign the centre-half Vitor Reis.
