Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has reminded Renato Veiga not to forget everything he has done for him, amid rumors the 21-year-old Portuguese is leaving for Borussia Dortmund this month.

Veiga is understood to have declared his interest in joining the German giants permanently, which would leave Maresca short-handed as the versatile player has been a good option at left-back.

However, Veiga is said to want to be used as a central defender. While Maresca is willing to let Ben Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka and others leave in January, he is less interested in losing Veiga.

Speaking ahead of the Premier League visit to Bournemouth on Tuesday night, Maresca said: “We'll see if something happens. “I'm not aware of there being a deal for him.

'We bought Renato de Basel. He arrived and played well in different positions and allowed him to join the national team for the first time in his life. Even if he wasn't playing in his position (central defense).

“We are happy that all the players are going to the international team, especially the young players who come to Chelsea, play in four or five different positions and have the opportunity to play in the national team. We are very proud of that.”

When asked what he had said to Veiga in private, Maresca continued: 'I spoke to Renato and I said exactly the same thing I said to you.

“Playing in the position he plays for us gives him the opportunity to join an international team and gives him the opportunity to generate speculation about him, which means he is wanted by clubs.” Clubs look for players who are doing well, not badly.

“For me, if there is a player who wants to play in a position, he will have difficulties.” They have to adapt, play in different positions. “It's something good for the team and the club.”
