Bill Byrgebest known for his roles in the popular “Ernest” films, has died… TMZ has confirmed.
The actor's cousin, Sharon Chapmantells TMZ that Bill passed away yesterday at the age of 92 at his home in Nashville. The cause of death remains unknown.
Sharon first shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook, paying tribute to him as a beautiful soul who made people laugh without even trying.
She recalled teasing Bill about being the star of the family, adding that he deserved it – even though his mother grew up poor, he instilled in him love, respect and trust, values that he shared with everyone.
Speaking to TMZ, Sharon opened up about Bill's unexpected rise to fame – and revealed that he was discovered walking down a sidewalk before appearing in 1985's “Dr. “Otto and the Riddle of the Gloom Ray” was cast. This breakout role led to several more appearances in the Ernest series, which ended with 1994's “Ernest Goes to School.”
Although Bill enjoyed his time in the film business, Sharon told us that it wasn't his true calling. He took a backseat to his “Ernest” co-star Jim Varney died in 2000 and returned to his work as a librarian.
Sharon describes him as a deeply religious man who treated everyone with love and respect.
He was 92.
