A former university basketball player was arrested in relation to the murder of his own mother in Jacksonville, Florida.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's office responded to a scene at West 15th Street around 8:30 am on Monday in the Durkeeville neighborhood after receiving reports from a body found in the backyard.
After reaching the scene, the police found Erika Winford's body, 51, wrapped in blankets and towels. It was declared dead on the scene after suffering a gunshot wound.
The officers arrested Eric Cobb, 28, while trying to leave the house. After interviewing him, the detectives arrested him.
The sergeant of Jso Steve Rudlaff says that the initial investigation discovered two nearby witnesses, including one that told the police that he listened to someone screaming “that he will kill me” around 8:00 pm on Sunday, according to First Costa News.
Another witness says they heard 'multiple' shots. Neither witnesses called 9-1-1.

A friend of someone who lives in the house where he found the body told the police that he went to the house after not being able to reach the occupant by phone.
After arriving, the friend found a large pool of blood and a body in the backyard.
Cobb played university basketball for three seasons, starting his career at the University of South Carolina, where he played for a season.
Then he transferred to the University of Connecticut and played from 2017 to 2019.
Cobb was suspended indefinitely from the UConn team in January 2018 due to 'harmful conduct for the team'. Later he joined the Huskies.
In his career, Cobb averaged 2.4 points, 2.9 rebounds and 0.3 assists. He played in 71 games in his career while averaging just over eight minutes per game.
