Bodycam footage of correctional officers brutally beating a handcuffed inmate – who died hours later – has been released by the New York state attorney general … and shows officers repeatedly beating the bloodied man.
The video shows Robert Brooks — an inmate serving a 12-year sentence for first-degree assault — was repeatedly punched and kicked … and a man appears to be gagging him with a towel.
videos released by the Attorney General's Office shows an officer repeatedly hitting Brooks in the stomach with a shoe while other officers pinned him with his arms behind his back. At one point, the officers pick Brooks up by his neck… He has blood all over his face and can't even support his own weight.
According to the Attorney General's Office, Brooks had a “use of force” encounter with correctional officers on December 9 at Marcy Correctional Facility in New York State. He was taken to Wynn Hospital in Utica, about seven miles away, and died in the early morning hours of Dec. 10.
Attorney General of the State of New York
Commissioner of the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision Daniel F. Martuscello III tells TMZ… “When I saw the video evidence of Robert Brook's killing, I felt deeply repulsed and nauseated. There is no excuse and no rationalization for a vulgar, inhumane act that senselessly took a life. This type of behavior cannot be normalized, and I will not allow it to be within DOCCS.
Martuscello says his department plans to independently investigate this tragedy … which promises institutional change. According to Martuscello, among the changes already initiated, 13 of the people involved in this incident have been suspended and one has resigned.
The Commissioner ends his comment by telling us that this act was a murder… and that people will be held accountable for their actions.
