A current pundit who earned cult hero status at Arsenal during his playing career has given his verdict on whether the club should sign Victor Osimhen.
Perry Groves, who made 156 appearances over six years in north London, gave a strong three-word statement when asked if the Nigerian should be a target for the Gunners.
talking to talksportGroves said Arsenal should sign Osimhen, who has 15 goals in 19 appearances in all competitions for Galatasaray so far this season, “in the blink of an eye”.
The former winger added: “You're not going to get (Alexander) Isak because Newcastle, even though they had a bad result at the weekend, are still trying to see if they can get into the Champions League so they're not I'm going to catch Isak.
“So if that means you pay more than expected or if you take a player on loan, any center forward at the top level.”
Arsenal's attacking options have caused constant debate all season: do the Gunners need more reinforcements up front if they are to win their first Premier League title in 21 years?
Perry Groves made an unwavering three-word statement about Victor Osimhen
Osimhen has 15 goals in 19 games in all competitions for Galatasaray so far this season
They appear to be short on numbers in the final third of the field, with Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus out with long-term injuries.
And although Kai Havertz has 14 goals in all competitions so far this campaign (Arsenal is six points behind league leaders Liverpool), he has one game less than his rivals.
The need to close the gap on the Reds and their lack of attacking options may force them, and Groves believes Osimhen should be their main target.
It comes after Arsenal all but secured their position as automatic Champions League group stage qualifiers following a comfortable 3-0 win at home to Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday night.
They now occupy third place in the standings, only behind Liverpool, who have already secured their place in the round of 16, and Barcelona.
Arsenal will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Molineux to face Wolves at 3pm, while Liverpool host Ipswich Town at Anfield at the same time.
Mikel Arteta will keep a close eye on Matheus Cunha, who has been linked with a move away from the West Midlands.
However, Arsenal are not the only club interested in landing his services, with Tottenham, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United all interested in the 25-year-old.
Mikel Arteta will keep a close eye on Matheus Cunha when Arsenal take on Wolves on Saturday as the player has been linked with a move away from the West Midlands.
However, Wolves insist Cunha is not for sale and have yet to receive formal offers for the player.
Cunha's contract still has two and a half years left to run and Wolves feel they are in a strong position to retain their Brazilian, but it remains to be seen whether a bid of more than £60m tempts the club to re-evaluate their stance. .
There is also the question of signing a replacement for Cunha who can hit the ground running in the Premier League, given the real threat of relegation.
Wolves sit above the relegation zone on goal difference alone, level on points with 18th-placed Ipswich, and face a daunting run of fixtures.
