Former junior lightweight champion Jamel Herring has been arrested in Ohio for alleged misdemeanor domestic violence and battery.
The 39-year-old, who retired from boxing in May 2022, was booked into the Warren County Jail and records show he had bail set at $50,000 for assault and $75,000 for domestic violence.
His next court date is scheduled for January 21. Herring served two tours in Iraq before turning to boxing.
“There were times when I saw things that you're used to seeing in movies,” he told the Daily Mail in 2020.
'There was one time when they attacked us with mortar shells and there were explosions around me. I remember seeing my fellow Marines catch one of the enemies in the act, capture him, and interrogate him.
“Seeing him was a very strange experience. Knowing that yesterday he was trying to kill us with bombs and then come face to face with him the next day.
'I really struggled with PTSD (on returning to civilian life). If it hadn't been for boxing and my Marine family, I might never have gotten over it.
“The training helped me take my thoughts away from everything I had experienced in Iraq that was still present in my mind.”
