Viktor Hovland suffered a freak injury in the bedroom that caused the golf star to break his toe.
The world No. 8 has been enjoying a period of festive rest and relaxation ahead of the PGA Tour's first event of the year in Hawaii, the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Kapalua.
But the Norwegian's chances of making a breakthrough in the season opener took a hit on Saturday, with Hovland sharing the news on Instagram.
The 27-year-old shared an image of an X-ray of his foot and explained the injury in the caption: “Bed frame 1 – 0 yo.”
While Hovland did not confirm or deny whether he would be able to start the pack on January 2, he received well wishes from both his followers and his teammates after sharing the photo.
Fellow PGA star Collin Morikawa seemed especially keen to avoid the same fate.

Scottie Scheffler is confirmed to miss The Sentry after suffering his own freak accident on Christmas Day.
The 27-year-old commented under the image: “I'm wrapping myself in bubble wrap on the way to Hawaii.”
But while Morikawa and Hovland's chances of making the green for Thursday's season opener still look likely, there will be one key omission from the group after another rare injury to one of the sport's stars.
Scottie Scheffler was preparing Christmas dinner on December 25 when small pieces of glass fell into his hand in a freak accident.
This, in turn, forced him to undergo surgery because “small fragments of glass” remained in his right hand.
The current world No. 1 will now spend up to a month recovering.
'On Christmas Day, while preparing dinner, Scottie suffered a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from broken glass. “Small shards of glass were left in the palm of his hand, requiring surgery,” his manager Blake Smith said in a statement Friday.
'They have told him he should be back to 100% in three or four weeks. Unfortunately, he will have to retire from The Sentry.
“Their next scheduled tournament is The American Express.”
