Adam Sandler has become accustomed to negative reviews after more than three decades in Hollywood.
Travis Kelce, Sandler's new co-star in the upcoming Happy Gilmore sequel, may have less experience in that area.
“Kelce ruined everything,” one fan wrote on X after a trailer was released during Wednesday's Christmas Day doubleheader.
“This is going to be terrible,” added another.
One commentator referred to an interview with Patrick Mahomes, who suggested the Chiefs' star tight end should get some “acting lessons” for Christmas.
“No wonder Mahomes wants to take him to acting lessons,” the person wrote after seeing Kelce in the 30-second Netflix ad.
Travis Kelce appeared to be a hotel or country club employee in 'Happy Gilmore' trailer
The film is expected to premiere on Netflix in July 2025.
Kelce, who has already dipped his toe into acting hosting Saturday Night Live, has a much-discussed cameo in the upcoming Happy Gilmore sequel. And whether in a remarkable coincidence, or a blatant display of corporate synergy, a sneak peek of Netflix's upcoming release aired Wednesday during the Chiefs' 29-10 win over the Steelers on the streaming service.
The Chiefs tight end appears in the trailer alongside music star Bad Bunny and 'Modern Family' actress Julie Bowen, a holdover from the original 1996 comedy.
Dressed as a hotel or country club employee, Kelce greets the main character from the film of the same name in the short clip.
“It's great to see you back, Mr. Gilmore,” he said.
—Can we get Travis Kelce off the TV screen for once? asked a commenter on X.
Another referenced Kelce's endorsement deal with a pharmaceutical company.
“Brutal,” the person wrote, “doesn't he have Pfizer ads to do or something?”
Many others referenced Kelce's girlfriend, Taylor Swift.
“The garbage the @nfl pushes with him and that clown Swift is disgusting,” wrote one critic.
One person took a poll on X and found that 63.6 percent of respondents are fed up with the Kelce brothers. Of course, only 22 X users voted, giving the survey a fairly small sample size.
Bad Bunny (left) could also be seen playing the role of caddy alongside Adam Sandler.
Adam Sandler as the main character Happy Gilmore in the 1996 film about the failed hockey player turned golf professional with a serious anger management problem.
Bad Bunny also appears in the trailer and is seen playing the role of Gilmore's caddy on a golf course.
Kelce earned very positive reviews for his 2023 appearance on SNL. What's more, the 35-year-old is facing retirement rumors at a time when Hollywood seems to be calling.
Of course, Kelce isn't done with football yet. The three-time Super Bowl champion surpassed the 1,000 reception mark and broke the Chiefs' all-time touchdown record with his 77th career touchdown on Wednesday.
Kelce has eight catches for 84 yards in the game, bringing his season receptions total to 97. He now has 1,004 career receptions.
He and Mahomes will likely sit out the Chiefs' regular-season finale next week on the road against the Broncos with home-field advantage secured through the AFC Championship.
