Illinois's basketball icon, Terrence Shannon Jr., was ashamed on the court on Saturday night after his Jersey retirement ceremony went very badly.
Shannon Jr. is now a NBA star with the Minnesota Timberwolves, but enjoyed two prolific university seasons in Illinois, averaging 23 ppg in its last year.
He was invited by the program this week to remove his shirt No. 0, but an unfortunate mistake made the ceremony memorable for all the wrong reasons.
When Shannon JR took out the cord to present his shirt in front of a multitude of 15,000 people at State Farm Center, the emotion quickly became confusion and laughter from the attendees.
Incredibly, Illinois employees had inadvertently established the Banner upside down, leaving the NBA star looking at its name in confusion.
He managed to shake shame, and after the game, the team's athletic director, Josh Whitman, confronted and made an apology.

'Obviously we had an unfortunate situation in part time with the shirt, around the celebration of Terrence. I just wanted to address that briefly before Brad appeared and talked about the game, 'he began.
'Obviously, a really unfortunate moment is a pity that it happened that way. Of course, I did not hang the shirt, but I am finally responsible for everything that happens in this building, so that is for me tonight.
'We need to make sure … we understand that errors can happen in life, but there are also certain times when errors cannot happen. Tonight, we steal that time of terrence and that is for us.

Employees had also taken the time to design free shirts for fans that are named Shannon Jr.
He continued explaining that the program had apologized with both the player and his mother, after the “months of planning” were undone at the “inexcusable” moment, caught live in the camera.
Fans on social networks also reacted to the shocking circumstances, with a writing that the program had “done dirty.”
Another added: “Illinois failed completely at the Jersey Jersey Shannon JR Jersey retirement.”
A third said: “Sit so bad for him.”
