Jason Kelce reveals brother Travis' childhood nickname before Chiefs-Texans playoff game

Jason Kelce revealed the nickname his brother Travis gave him as a child before the Kansas City Chiefs' game against the Houston Texans.

The former Philadelphia Eagles star, now an ESPN analyst, headed to Arrowhead Stadium to cover the divisional playoff showdown between the reigning Super Bowl champions and the winners of the AFC South.

As the ESPN team pointed out that Travis wore shorts despite the cold temperatures in Kansas City, Jason was asked if Travis was always “the crazy one” in the neighborhood when they were growing up in Cleveland Heights.

“He was the crazy one,” Jason replied. “I think we were both pretty reckless when it snowed in Cleveland.”

Jason then told the team how Travis used the name of an NBA legend he idolized as a child.

“He also told the entire block that his name was Charles because his favorite basketball player was Charles Barkley,” Jason shared.

Charles Barkley played in the NBA from 1984 to 2000 and became an NBA analyst for TNT.

'We found out at a street party because all the other parents (said), 'There goes Charles.' That's the kind of kid Travis was.

“Surely he always lived up to all his sporting idols,” he continued.

In his tenth year with Kansas City, Kelce's numbers have dropped significantly from previous seasons. Although he has added 97 receptions, four more than last year, the tight end is recording yards (823) and touchdowns (3), the lowest number of his career.

The Chiefs hope to repeat Kelce's postseason form from last year when he scored two touchdowns against Buffalo in the divisional playoffs and another against Baltimore in the AFC title game.

Kansas City had a near-perfect season with a 15-2 record atop the AFC West. Their only losses were against Buffalo and Denver.

The defending champions are coming off a bye week as they prepare to face the Texans who defeated the Chargers, 32-12, in a wild card defensive masterclass.
