Irish rider Michael O'Sullivan died at the 24th of the wounds he suffered after falling during a race in Thurles on February 6, it has been announced.
O'Sullivan, twice winner at the Cheltenham Festival in 2023, was traveling to Wee Charlie when he fell in the final fence in the two mile races again on February 20.
He was placed in intensive care and remained there in an induced coma before tragically died surrounded by a family a few days before his 25th birthday.
The International Racing Board of Horse (IHRB) confirmed the news on Sunday morning.
A statement said: 'On behalf of the O'Sullivan family, it is with deep sadness that the IHRB confirms the death of Michael O'Sullivan.
“The directors and IHRB staff wish to extend their sincere condolences to the family, couple, friends, friends, their colleagues in Michael, in the weightroom and the broader racing community at this time.”
The five -horsepower stack saw two other riders, Daniel King and Sean Flanagan, falling while Phillip Enright and Tiernan Power Roche were also thrown to the ground.
The meeting was abandoned after the terror incident.
O'Sullivan was established after receiving urgent medical care on the track before being transferred to 74 miles to the hospital, where he never regained consciousness.
Dr. Jennifer Pugh, medical director of the IHRB, said: 'Michael died sadly in the early hours of Sunday morning surrounded by her beloved family at the Hospital of the University of Cork.
'We extend our thanks to the multidisciplinary teams that provided the best medical attention to Michael, both in the racecourse and at the Hospital of the University of Cork.
'Michael's family made the decision to donate their organs at this incredibly difficult time, but in doing so it made a decision that will make a true difference in the lives of other patients and their families.
'I have had the privilege of meeting Michael through his amateur and professional career and his dedication, modesty and friendly nature, he always made him a pleasure to be close.
'Michael's success and his humility will have inspired many and share the feeling of loss today with all who knew him.
'Michael's family wishes to reiterate his gratitude for all the support they have received in recent days and express their gratitude to the local community and racing family.
“The O'Sullivan family has asked for privacy at this time.”
O'Sullivan won the obstacle of the supreme novices in Cheltenham in Marine Nationale and also triumphed aboard Jazzy Matty in the winter Fred.
He had set up 14 winners in Ireland and two in Great Britain this season.
