The Irish pen boxer John Cooney died after suffering a brain injury in his clash with Nathan Howells last weekend.
Cooney was arrested in the ninth round of the fight, which was the first defense of his Celtic title of super pen, and suffered an intracranial hemorrhage.
After being treated by medical staff at the Ulster Hall Cooney, he was later taken urgently to Royal Victoria Hall Hospital in Belfast.
“It is with complete devastation that we must announce that after a week of fighting for his life, John Cooney has died sadly,” said MHD Promotions on behalf of the Cooney family.

After the premature death of the 28 -year -old, taxes spilled from social networks.
A Rom Matchroom Boxing statement says: 'We are deeply saddened by learning the death of John Cooney.
“Our thoughts are with your family, friends, @Markdunlop and the whole team at this time.”
Cooney won the title with the victory over Liam Gaynor in Dublin in November 2023, but spent a year out of the ring with an injury in hand before returning with a victory over Tampela Maharusi in October.
