Kansas City Chiefs get big injury boost and Jaylen Watson set to return ahead of NFL playoffs

The Kansas City Chiefs received a big injury bump this week ahead of the NFL playoffs.

With the Chiefs' quest for three Super Bowl titles ready to enter its home stretch, Kansas City has designated cornerback Jaylen Watson to return from the injured list, according to FOX's Jordan Schultz.

Watson has been sidelined with a fractured fibula since late October and his return is a huge boost for the reigning champions.

He is reportedly scheduled to practice at the end of Week 18, the final week of the regular season.

Watson will now have 21 days to be activated to the 53-man roster and could be available to make an official return for Kansas City's first postseason game in the divisional round.

The defensive star has not played since the Chiefs' Super Bowl rematch against the San Francisco 49ers on October 20.

Watson was seen leaving the locker room on crutches and his left foot in a cast after the 28-18 victory.

Watson had been a rising star in coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's defense, helping Kansas City stop some of the NFL's best offenses through the first six games of the season.

He recorded 32 total tackles with six passes defended in six games this season before being sidelined.

The Chiefs will conclude their regular season on Sunday on the road against the Denver Broncos before heading into their postseason bye as the top seed in the AFC.

The Chiefs are expected to rest several key players before the game in Denver on Sunday as attention turns to the playoffs.

Patrick Mahomes is definitely out and Travis Kelce is expected to be absent as well.
