With the number one seed in the AFC playoffs completely secured for the Kansas City Chiefs, the team has made some personnel decisions to ensure the safety of its players.
That includes moving starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes to the bench for Kansas City's regular-season finale against the Denver Broncos.
Instead, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that backup quarterback Carson Wentz will start.
While no other moves had been announced, it is likely that other key Kansas City starters, such as pass rusher Chris Jones and tight end Travis Kelce, could also be benched.
This game has no importance for the Chiefs (15-1), who have already secured a place in the AFC divisional round that will take place the weekend of January 18.
However, that doesn't mean the game isn't important to the overall AFC playoff picture.
Kansas City Chiefs will bench Patrick Mahomes for Sunday's Week 18 matchup
Carson Wentz will start against Denver, as KC already clinched the number one spot.
The Broncos (9-7) are clinging to the final playoff spot – seventh place – and will likely need a win to seal their berth in the NFL postseason.
If they don't win the game against KC, then their fate will be out of their hands and a spot could go to one of the other two teams that are currently 8-8.
The Cincinnati Bengals play the Pittsburgh Steelers (10-6) on Saturday night and are in position to make the playoffs if they win and Denver loses.
But if Cincinnati and Denver lose, then the door opens for the Miami Dolphins to claim the final playoff spot if they can beat the New York Jets.
If all three teams lose, Denver will reach the postseason via tiebreakers.
Whoever gets the seventh seed faces a trip to Orchard Park, New York, to face the Buffalo Bills, who have clinched the second seed in the AFC playoffs.
As for the NFC, all playoff teams have been confirmed, except for the NFC South division, where either the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or the Atlanta Falcons will make the postseason.
