Kyren Lacy, the top NFL Draft prospect for whom Louisiana police have an arrest warrant, is cooperating fully with authorities, his agent says.
Louisiana police said in a statement Friday that Lacy is wanted for negligent homicide after allegedly fleeing the scene of an accident where his driving caused a crash that killed a 78-year-old former Marine.
The 24-year-old was considered by many to be a first-round pick in this year's draft and declared for the NFL just two days after the accident.
His agent, Rocky Arceneaux, posted a statement on social media saying: “We are aware of the allegations that have been made about Kyren Lacy and want to take this opportunity to address them.
'Firstly, Kyren is cooperating fully with the authorities. We firmly believe that the facts will ultimately prove the truth, but we respect the need for a full and thorough investigation.
Many had anticipated that the 24-year-old would be a first-round pick in the NFL Draft.
The accident occurred two days before Lacy, 24, was set to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft.
'We recognize the concern and questions that may arise from these recent allegations. To anyone affected, directly or indirectly, we want to assure you that this matter is being taken very seriously and we are committed to resolving it responsibly.
“Out of respect for the investigation and everyone involved, we will have no further comment at this time.”
A statement from Louisiana police said: “After the accident, Lacy drove around the scene of the accident and fled south on LA Hwy 20 without stopping to render aid, call emergency services or report his involvement in the accident.
'The investigation revealed that the accident occurred when a 2023 Dodge Charger was traveling south on LA Hwy 20.
'The driver of the Dodge Charger, later identified as 24-year-old Kyren Lacy of Thibodaux, recklessly passed several vehicles at a high rate of speed while crossing the center line and entering the northbound lane while in a designated no-passing zone.
'While Lacy was illegally passing the other vehicles, the driver of a pickup truck in the northbound lane abruptly braked and turned to the right to avoid a head-on collision with the oncoming Dodge.
'Behind the truck was a Kia Cadenza whose driver turned left to avoid the oncoming Dodge Charger.
“As the Kia Cadenza took evasive action to avoid impact with the Dodge, it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a southbound Kia Sorrento.”
Lacy declared for the NFL Draft on December 19, two days after the incident, and captioned his post: “The time is now!!”
Lacy wrote: “I want to express my gratitude to all my coaches, support staff and athletic trainers for helping me develop as a football player, but most of all as a person.”
“Even though we didn't achieve our goal of winning a national championship, I promise to take all of those life lessons with me into the next chapter of my life.”
He had the best year of his career at LSU in 2024, making 58 receptions for 866 yards and a team-high nine touchdowns in 12 games.
During a three-year stint with the Tigers, the 6-foot-2 Lacy had 112 receptions, 1,692 yards and 16 TDs.
