Lando Norris has pledged to 'get my elbows' in search of the world championship, admitting that he led as 'an idiot' at times last year.
The British star spoke after taking her new McLaren in her first laps in Silverstone yesterday, a month before the season begins in Melbourne.
Norris aims to go better after having lost his battle for the previous title against Max Verstappen of Red Bull, who closed his fourth consecutive crown with three remaining races.
Aware that it was seen that he lacked the inflexible way of Verstappen in the heat of a race, Norris said: 'I need to get my elbows. I need to show that I will not voluntarily give it any position.
'I also have to be an intelligent driver. You have to be to face Max.
But I look forward to it. I like having to make quick decisions.

'It is always much more difficult when you are in the car than when you see it again. But even when I see some things I did, what the hell I did? What an idiot.
'But at the same time, I don't want to say that I need to prove him something.
'I don't need to take unnecessary risks. It is fast, it is aggressive, it is one of the best, so the easy way is to be faster and stay at the forefront.
“It means that I want to start the season well.”
The team's director, Andrea Stella, declared himself happy with the new car, which called 'innovative', a wrecked warning to McLaren's rivals since the Surrey team possessed the fastest machinery for most of 2024.
Stella also said that it was a 'clean slate' with respect to the orders of the team and that Norris and the Australian teammate Oscar Piasstri begin as equal partners.
