- Norris de McLaren took the pole position for less than a tenth of a second on Piastri
- The papaya couple was wrapped in several tense fights during the 2024 season
- Max Verstappen was found in the fourth tenth of the rhythm and will have to pursue
Lando Norris has revealed that McLaren's teammate, Oscar Piasstri, will be allowed to hunt the British from the green light in the Australian Grand Prix, after the couple seal a blockade of the front row row.
Norris, who finished second in the Driver World Championship last year, recovered from an early error in the classification to take the first pole position of the season in Melbourne.
The British surpassed Pastri on his track of origin, hitting him for less than a tenth of a second on Saturday.
During the search for Norris for the title of the championship in 2024, which finally lost, the papaya couple was involved in several heated duels on the track, with the question that the orders of the team reached a critical point in the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Despite being in a privileged position to hunt the eventual Max Verstappen champion, Norris was forced to yield to team orders, after going back against them, and allow Piasstri to win his first Formula One career in Budapest.
The 25-year-old was finally awarded the state of quasi-no 1 in McLaren before the year came out. However, with the first race that is coming, it has confirmed that Piastri will not have to contain the track against him.

While Piastri (left) begins behind Norris (right) in second place, team orders will not stop the Australian driver for victory
“Obviously there have been discussions because we are prepared,” Norris said. 'We know that we are going to have much more of this kind of thing during the season.
'There are clearly rules, I replied this the other day, there are clearly rules that we cannot cross. Both cars will always have to remain in the race, and that kind of thing.
'But we are both competitors, that is clear. We both want to fight for a victory and fight for the victories, that is clear. But there are only limits around the car, so just a little more space here and there, but we are free to compete. We are free to try to win races.
Despite the various tense fights between Norris and Piastri last year, McLaren still won the builder's title on Ferrari and Red Bull Racing.
And although Norris was awarded the position of driver number 1 to help see that title, the couple is starting with a clean slate in Melbourne this season.
“What won the builders last year (championship) was how we helped each other and how we kept things clean and how there was order when necessary,” Norris continued.
'But much of that was much later in the season and when external things happened.
'At this time, there is nothing like that, so it's good. We are both excited and, of course, we will always have our morning talks, but we will wait and see.
