Liverpool's clash with Manchester United is on the line as officials meet to discuss the viability of the match after heavy overnight snowfall in the region.
The Met Office issued an amber weather warning for Liverpool and Manchester, the same level as was issued before the canceled Merseyside derby in December.
Liverpool City Council's Safety Advisory Group will meet this morning and decide whether or not to call off the 4.30pm match.
A ground inspection is also said to take place at Anfield at around 9am.
Amber warnings, while not as severe as red warnings, indicate a possible risk to life and significant travel disruption.
Images on social media show a layer of snow covering the ground on the streets around Anfield.
Liverpool's match against Manchester United at Anfield could be suspended due to snow
The streets around Anfield appear covered in a layer of snow before the crash.
Liverpool City Council's security advisory group meets and will decide whether the match should be suspended.
Taggy's Bar, a Liverpool FC-themed establishment next to the stadium, wrote on Instagram: “The snow is up to five centimeters in places.” It is raining a little, but it is very cold, so it will most likely not blow away the snow. My money is in deferment. They told me we'll meet at nine.
Liverpool City Council campaigners have already carried out several outings in the last 24 hours in a bid to boost road safety for traveling fans.
Around 80 miles later, Chesterfield's clash with Gillingham at the SMH Group Stadium was called off after an early morning pitch inspection.
Some Manchester United fans have been pleading for the match to be canceled on social media due to their torrid form, leaving the odds stacked against them.
'Safety first. That's my motto. Better safe than sorry. That's another one. If there is even the slightest concern for the well-being of anyone involved (which there clearly is), it is best to postpone it. Or even cancel completely. Share the points. Everyone is happy. And most importantly, everyone is safe,” wrote one prominent United fan on Bluesky.
“Honestly, this morning is like Siberia. People could lose limbs to frostbite. Stop this madness now.'
In December, Liverpool's clash with Everton was canceled just four hours before kick-off due to chaos caused by Storm Darragh.
Storm Darragh wreaked havoc across the country with winds of up to 92mph, causing travel chaos, damage and leaving thousands of people without power.
A pitch inspection is underway after heavy overnight snow left Liverpool looking like 'Siberia'.
Liverpool said the late postponement was due to “severe weather and strong winds, which have also caused serious disruption to travel in and around Merseyside”.
It is still unclear when the rescheduled Merseyside derby, the last at Goodison Park, will take place.
Arne Slot's side have one less game as a result of that postponement, but will want to avoid another one as they won't want the games to pile up in 2025.
More to follow.
