Luke Litter lights up social media with crazy habit during World Darts Championship win over Michael Van Gerwen as memes flood

Luke Littler was unflappable on the oche in a dominant victory over Michael van Gerwen to secure his first World Darts Championship victory at just 17 years old.

But his unerring precision in hitting a particular stuntman has set social media on fire with a wave of memes.

The Nuke beat their Dutch rival 7-3 to complete a remarkable run to the top of the sport, which saw them defeat the likes of Stephen Bunting and Nathan Aspinall at Alexandra Palace.

In doing so, he broke van Gerwen's record of being the youngest world champion in history. Comfortably: The Green Machine was a comparatively 24 years older when he claimed victory in 2014 against Peter Wright.

The Warrington-born wunderkind was efficient in all doubles during the final, hitting more than 50 per cent of his attempts, but his near-perfect double 10 record did not go unnoticed by online darts fans.

Some compared his surprising double-winning habit to Arjen Robben's incredible success coming in from the right wing in football, while others pointed out how Van Gerwen must feel seeing him leave 20 on the scoreboard.

The Green Machine simply didn't show up at Ally Pally and was left lamenting a fourth final loss.

Littler often prefers the double 10 to other areas of the board, but concluded his record-breaking victory by scoring a double 16.

During the contest, Sky Sports commentator Dan Dawson summed it up by saying: “It's a cheat code for Luke Littler tonight, that double 10.”

The reliable spot in the right corner of the board sent Littler flying in what turned out to be the final set, leaving him just two steps away from glory.

The rivalry between Van Gerwen and Littler may have only begun in early 2024, but watching the pair collide in the ultimate competition has become box office staples over the course of the past 12 months.

The pair had met 12 times since their first match at the Bahrain Masters in January, with both finishing on top six times each.

Littler has had the better of his recent meetings, beating the Dutchman in the semi-finals of the World Series of Darts and on the European Tour.

After the meeting, Littler broke down in tears and shared a touching moment with van gerwen.
