The asp
Next we will look at Aspinall, the man with the best strike in the sport.
He was a bit of the villain of the piece when he knocked out Leonard Gates in the second round, before beating what was, in all honesty, a poor Andrew Gilding in the third round.
Then in the fourth round it was even worse by Ricardo Pietreczko, who the Asp described as a “strange” character before the fight. The German did not even put a glove on him: he averaged a miserable 78.46. 4-0. Hasn't it been tested yet? Or continue with your work?
We'll see tonight, because you can bet he'll be tested against Luke Littler.
mental bunting
The Liverpool player, after receiving a seeding pass in the first round, would face the German Kai Gotthardt in the second round. They weren't at their best, but they didn't need to be, as they emerged victorious 3-1.
In the next round it was Madars Razma, world number 44, and then we saw the best of Bunting, who averaged more than 100 to barely smell the Latvian.
And last time he shined in the doubles, winning more than 40 percent while decimating fellow Brit Luke Woodhouse, who had looked good up to that point.
A win here could set up a quarter-final clash with Luke Littler and would almost certainly secure their place in the Premier League.
Playing Wright style
So let's take a look at how the two from tonight's first match made it to the round of 16.
Peter Wright has been in terrible form this year. But the two-time champion somehow found his best again when almost everyone had written him off.
He edged out Wesley Plaisier in the second round, entering as the 17th seed. After that, he faced a tough task from Jermaine Wattimena, who had been backed by many to be the surprise. But, with an average of 96, he surpassed the Dutchman and tied in the round of 16 with defending champion Luke Humphries.
Surely that would be a step too far? Oh no. Averaging nearly 101, he defeated Humphries 4-1, despite the Englishman averaging over 99 and putting in a performance that would probably have beaten 99 percent of players.
Now it's Bunting. It would be brave to bet against him coming out victorious again, especially if he plays like he did the other night.
Tonight's schedule
What a pair of cookies we ate today. First, Chris Dobey booked his place in the last four for the first time after edging out former champion Gerwyn Price, whose finish was all over the place. He defeated himself more than anything else.
Callan Rydz then pushed three-time champion Michael van Gerwen all the way, but the Green Machine did what he does best and emerged victorious by five sets to three. Silly darts.
Can he live up to it tonight? There is no reason to believe not.
First we have Peter Wright against Stephen Bunting, followed by Luke Littler against Nathan Aspinall..
Luke Littler is back in action!
In fact it is. Welcome to Mail Sport's live coverage of Ally Pally's quarter-final second set tonight – we've got two games for you.
One of them will, indeed, be Luke Littler. The tournament favorite will face Nathan Aspinall in the last 16 after almost edging out Ryan Joyce on Monday, and the Asp will also quietly go about their business.
First up, however, is Peter Wright, who eliminated defending champion Luke Humphries last time out, against popular champion Stephen Bunting.
