French giants Lyon were humiliated by fifth-division amateur team FC Bourgoin-Jallieu when they were eliminated from the French Cup round of 32 on Wednesday.
The fans invaded the pitch after the final whistle in wild scenes of celebration for the victory over their illustrious neighbors.
The Ligue 1 team dominated the match with 21 shots and 72% possession, but could only tie the match 2-2 before being eliminated on penalties.
“This is what we play football for,” goalkeeper Ronan Jay told beIN Sports. “It will stay with us for life, it's incredible.”
Less than 50 kilometers separate the two cities, but the clubs have little in common. Lyon is one of the most celebrated clubs in France, having won the league title seven times in addition to its five cup titles, while Bourgoin-Jallieu plays in the fifth division.
Mehdi Moujetzky opened the scoring for the minnows but the dream ended when the five-time competition winners took the lead in the 64th minute thanks to goals from former Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic and Georges Mikautadze.

But Moujetzky scored his second goal of the night just five minutes later and the hosts held on and took the game to spot kicks.
More drama came on penalties when former Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette and Corentin Tolisso missed their shots.
Meanwhile, the fifth division team maintained enough composure to win 4-2.
It was the first time that Lyon, sixth in Ligue 1, was eliminated in the French Cup by a team outside France's four main divisions.
