Manchester United fans were left furious after the Red Devils were denied a first-half penalty in their match against Southampton on Thursday night.

After struggling in the early stages of the match at Old Trafford, United felt they should have been awarded a penalty when Kyle Walker-Peters appeared to touch the ball inside the penalty area.

The Southampton full-back launched an aerial challenge with Amad Diallo and missed his header before appearing to control the ball with his arm.

Referee John Brooks dismissed United's appeals and his on-field decision stood after the incident was verified by VAR.

But after watching the replays, United fans were convinced the referees had made the wrong decision.

“If Manchester United are on the other end of this, the referee will be sent to check for handball,” one fan posted on X along with a clip of the controversial incident.

Responses to the post indicated that many fans agreed, while another follower wrote: “Clearly a penalty.”

A fellow fan added: “Yeah, he writes that all day,” while another X user claimed Brooks should have given the penalty without VAR intervention.

“Not even that (proven), just given,” they wrote.

The hosts may have felt badly about not being awarded a penalty, and their mood was not improved when Southampton took a shock lead just before half-time.

After Andre Onana made a series of good saves early in the half, there was nothing the United goalkeeper could do when a Southampton corner was deflected by Manuel Ugarte and found the corner of the net.
