Fans were encouraged to use black to symbolize how their club was 'dying slowly'.
A 1958 spokesman said: 'The club is dying slowly before our eyes, on and off the field, and the fault is directly in the current property model.
“In many ways, this is the biggest crisis faced by the club from the Munich Air Disaster (which killed 23 in 1958) that inspires our name.”

When presenter David Jones asked him to find an optimistic angle for United fans, Neville said: “I mean, you would cling to the hope that perhaps the manager needs a preseason, which needs more recruitment. You would think about the fact that he has really fought since he has entered. Maybe you would think about … I am fighting right now.
'I think what happened in the last ten years in the club will return home to be perched at this time, at this time. Fans are angry. They will protest today. I think when you see that Manchester United has gone from the richest football club in the world not to be able to feed its own staff, that is a massive disappearance.
'And what he is hitting now in the field is also leaving the field. Debt, poor recruitment, lack of capacity to find performance. Now there are 15 in the League, which I never thought I would see: Manchester United 15 in the League in March.
'Therefore, there is not much to consider more than the fact that the manager retains an element of optimism, and you expect it to be supported and do it well for next season. But this season is a bit cancelable.
