Manchester United stars have paid tribute to Lisandro Martínez when wearing special shirts after the news that the defender has suffered a knee injury that ends the season.

Martínez damaged his crossed ligament on his left knee in Sunday's defeat against Crystal Palace in Old Trafford.

United confirmed the news earlier this week after the Argentine stretched in the game.

The club has not put a time scale in Martínez's rehabilitation, but it is understood that the 27 -year -old could be out of action for up to six months.

The message translates as 'a lot of strength, liquid'.

Martínez had been stretched in the defeat of Man United against Crystal Palace on Sunday

The World Cup winner had already lost more than three months of last season due to complications with a broken metatarsal suffered at the end of his first campaign in England.

Martínez's injury is a great blow to Man United, with the central defender who has been a key player so far this season.

The Argentine has started 20 of the 22 Premier League games of the Red Devils this season.

In total, Martínez has appeared in 32 games for the club in all competitions in this campaign, including play in its eight ties of the Europa League.

Man United, Ruben Amorim, admitted before the fourth round draw with Leicester that Martínez's injury will take time to recover.

“Licha is a difficult situation,” said Amorim.

“He will be out for a while, we don't know the scope of the injury, but it will take time.”
