Manchester United's 3-1 defeat to Brighton saw the club equal a record set in the 1893-94 campaign.
The Red Devils suffered a fourth defeat in five games at Old Trafford as the Seagulls took all three points.
Goals from Yankuba Minteh, Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter sealed the victory for the visitors and Bruno Fernandes scored from the penalty spot for the hosts.
It was the sixth home defeat of the season for Rubén Amorim's men, who had already lost on their turf against Liverpool, Tottenham, Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth and Newcastle.
United have not lost so many of their first 12 home league games since the 1893-94 season, when they were still known as Newton Heath and 17 years before they moved to Old Trafford.
“In (nine) Premier League games we won two,” Amorim said after the match.
