Mel Gibson toured the ash pile that was once his California home … but he seemed far more concerned about making sure first responders knew how much he appreciated their efforts.
Mel was photographed returning to his Malibu property for the first time on Wednesday, where he shook hands with firefighters and surveyed the damage left by the deadly Palisades fire.
While not all residents were able to return to their property, Mel appears to have been given a ride by the fire department while filming a ride-along interview with a NewsNation correspondent.

While Mel has gone on record saying he's just glad his family is safe, there was at least one souvenir he wanted to pick up before leaving the property, namely an end table.

Mel, who lived in the house for about 15 years, says he lost a lot of “cool stuff” but knows he can replace it all. He says he plans to clean up and rebuild the property.
