New Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. has announced his engagement to his girlfriend Olivia Carter.
It's another big milestone for the 24-year-old, who replaced Kirk Cousins as the Falcons' starting quarterback in early December.
Sharing a video of the engagement, Penix wrote: 'I will love you forever. I can't wait to live life with you.
The video shows the impressive efforts Penix went to to surprise her partner. She had flowers ready and huge letters spelling 'MARRY ME' that left Carter speechless.
In his first game for the Falcons, Penix led his team to a victory over the New York Giants with a 34-7 victory.
He completed 18 of 27 passes for 202 yards and had just one interception to keep the Falcons in the playoff hunt.
Penix's next test will be against the Washington Commanders on Sunday Night Football later this weekend.
The Falcons selected Penix Jr. with the eighth pick in this year's NFL Draft, a surprising move given they had already signed Cousins to a lucrative four-year, $180 million contract.
As Cousins struggled with the ongoing season and the Falcons had a real shot at making the playoffs, head coach Raheem Morris made the bold decision to bring in Penix Jr. with three games left in the regular season.
“We've been digging as much as we can to make it all work,” Morris explained.
“We wanted to play better at QB and we felt like we had a chance to play better.”
