Mohamed Salah was back in the spotlight for Liverpool on Sunday night, scoring one goal and assisting two more in Liverpool's 5-0 rout of West Ham.
The Egyptian striker has barely been out of the headlines this season as the saga over his contract continues. Salah is out of contract at the end of the season and can enter into negotiations with non-English clubs from Wednesday for a free transfer once his contract expires.
But the 32-year-old was jubilant after Sunday's game, reflecting that it was a much better trip to the London Stadium than the last time he visited in April.
Salah clashed with his then coach, Jurgen Klopp, as he was about to come on at the end of the 2-2 draw. Tempers were tense as Liverpool's title challenge continued to crumble in the German manager's final season at the club.
Liverpool's all-time top scorer in the Premier League He declined interview requests after the game, saying, “There will be a fire today if I speak.”
Klopp attempted to downplay the incident at the time, saying: “No problem. We are absolutely fine with that. It's not a story.
Mo Salah laughs as he explains how his teammates made fun of him for last season's fight.
The Egyptian striker was in great form at the London Stadium, scoring one goal and assisting two more.
It is a far cry from last season's encounter, when Salah faced then-manager Jurgen Klopp.
But now, Salah has broken his silence on the exchange and revealed that he was the subject of some ridicule from his teammates.
“It was kind of funny because before the game, the guys in the locker room said, 'Do you remember what happened last year?'” Salah told Sky Sports.
'Virgil (van Dijk) started it. We laughed about it. “Last year wasn’t a good time here, but I’m glad this year was better.”
While Salah and Klopp remained silent about the dispute, West Ham striker Michail Antonio admitted rumors were circulating.
“Basically, this is not inside information, no one has told me anything, but what I have heard is what the boys were talking about on the training ground,” he told the Footballers' Football Podcast in May.
“When the (Liverpool) players come in, Klopp always gives them a big hug and says 'good luck', but when Mo came in, he walked in a different direction and was doing his shin pads and stuff like that.
“Klopp held out his hand and his hand was there for a moment and when Mo stopped what he was doing he just slapped (Klopp's) hand for a high five.”
“Klopp obviously didn't like that and said to me, 'Do you want to sit back down?', basically saying, 'Do you want to continue?' And no one has told me what Mo responded.
Liverpool's 5-0 victory extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to eight points as they seek their 20th English league title.
It is the same number of titles as their great rival, Manchester United, whom they will host in their next league match on Sunday.
