Shamsud Din JabbarThe terrorist who wreaked havoc in New Orleans in the early hours of New Year's Day won a slew of medals while serving in the Army… TMZ has learned.
The Armed Forces veteran served in the regular Army from March 2007 to January 2015 as a human resources specialist and information technology specialist — and he was a decorated military member … an Army spokesperson tells TMZ.
We're told Jabbar has received 23 medals, ribbons and badges… including the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Army Achievement Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.
Jabbar was also awarded the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal… which is ironic considering the FBI now says he committed an act of domestic terrorism.
We learn that during his time in the Army, Jabbar was stationed in Afghanistan from February 2009 to January 2010… and while serving overseas, Jabbar received an Afghanistan Campaign Medal with a Campaign Star.
We also learn that Jabbar served as an IT specialist in the Army Reserve from January 2015 to July 2020… and held the rank of Staff Sergeant at the end of his service.
Jabbar's other awards included the Driver and Mechanic Badge…a special badge recognizing a high level of expertise in the operation and maintenance of motor vehicles…which is interesting considering he drove a pickup truck on a busy road Bourbon Street killed 14 people.

As we reported … Jabbar told his college newspaper that he was Difficulty adjusting to civilian life After he got out of the regular Army, he had difficulty using his GI Bill benefits and speaking to his colleagues.
Jabbar's life looked pretty bleak Although he was not in the army, he was a highly decorated member during his service.
