The NFL community is coming together to support victims of the Los Angeles wildfires, donating a total of $5 million to the relief fund.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced the donation on Friday … revealing that the league and the Rams, Chargers, Vikings and Texans organizations were committed to helping LA County, where historic fires have destroyed thousands of properties.
“We are heartbroken by the devastating losses suffered by so many in the Los Angeles area and inspired by the heroism of first responders and residents who supported their neighbors,” Goodell said.
At least ten people died in the forest fires.
The Chargers and Rams — who both have playoff games this weekend — will honor first responders by wearing custom LAFD hats and shirts at their games.
Fans also have the opportunity to purchase the merch themselves… and all proceeds go to the LAFD Foundation and the American Red Cross.
Match-used jerseys and footballs are also auctioned off NFL AuctionAll proceeds benefit the American Red Cross.
Additionally, half of the 50/50 raffle from the Rams game, which was moved to State Farm Stadium in Arizona, will be donated to the cause.
“On behalf of our family and the Los Angeles Rams, our thoughts are with everyone affected by the incredible fires and destruction,” the Kroenke family said.
“We know there are both immediate and long-term needs, and our family and the Rams are committed to doing our part to support recovery efforts now and in the months and years to come.”
